A Great Use for Freezer Paper

Although the picture below is of perfectly lovely pillows, this post is not about the pillows.

It is about the technique used to create the stencil effect on the pillows.  The techniques uses freezer paper, spray paint and an iron.  The possibilities of what type of custom designs can be made with this method is endless.  Tracings of all kinds of designs can be made on the paper and made into wonderful things as simple as placemats to as grand as fabric headboards.

This blog is from Vanessa Christianson and contains even more great tutorials.  It is definitely worth taking a look.

Have a great day.

Meanwhile .... keep it simple and make it real.

Saturday Things

Good morning!  Is your weekend going well?  Mine is going to be a lazy one.

Today the post is sharing a site that provides many, many recipes, meal planning and shopping lists for healthy, low calories dishes.  The site focuses on Weight Watcher point recipes.  One can pick recipes based on the number of points, ingredient or type of meal.  This site is a real find.

I have chosen to share a Stuffed Mushroom Casserole recipe because I love mushrooms.  Take a look.

Ingredients
16oz mushrooms, sliced
2 stalks celery, diced
1 medium onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1 cup reduced fat mozzarella cheese, shredded
2 egg whites
1 tbsp light butter
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp dried sage
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray a 2qt casserole dish with an olive oil mister or non-fat cooking spray.
In a medium, nonstick skillet melt butter over medium high heat. Add in onions and celery, and cook until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
Add in mushrooms, garlic, thyme, sage and salt and pepper, and cook until mushrooms are soft, about 5-7 minutes.
Transfer mushroom mixture to a large bowl, and stir in all remaining ingredients, except for the shredded mozzarella.
Pour into prepared casserole dish and top evenly with the shredded mozzarella.
Place into oven and bake until cheese becomes golden and bubbly, about 10-15 minutes.

Now - a little bit of show and tell.

This the priming stage of a redo of a two drawer chest.  The finish was ruined on the piece so we chose to paint.

The finished piece.  It was base-painted with a very pale yellow and then glazed with a brown mix.  The final finish has been lacquered.

This is a closeup of the top of the chest to give a better perspective of the glazing.

Enjoy your weekend.  Meanwhile .... keep it simple and make it real.

Painting Laminate Furniture

Before

After

I am not very fond of laminate furniture but it did serve its purpose when my kids were young.  Now I would accept or buy an inexpensive piece because of the tutorial at Makely School for Girls.  Lindsay has done a wonderful job going through each step and has an update about a product she discovered after her original post.
Please visit Makely School for Girls for all the details.  There is no use in wasting a perfectly strong piece of furniture if it can be reworked into something suitable and beautiful!

Today .... keep it simple and make it real.

Our Before and Afters - Furniture Makeovers

Good Morning!  I am glad to see you have stopped by again.  Do  you like the pic I added?  Fenetre is one of the few French words I remember.

Today is going to be a "before and brag" post.  Let's face it, no one would do before and afters unless they wanted to brag about the afters.

This is a 1960's stereo cabinet.

All of the insides and front were removed and this is the finished piece

Next is a very old, not so pretty dresser.

Now she is pretty!

How about a very old china cabinet?

and now!

CH put in a lot of hard work to rehab these pieces and I am  happy to say each piece has found its way to someone's home.
